PCOD is a very common condition affecting 5–10% of women of reproductive age. Do you know, in our country, India one in five (20%) women are suffering from this health condition? If not cured in time, the health condition can have serious health impacts.

A well-balanced PCOS/PCOD diet will help to keep your body healthy and allow insulin to function properly.

Before talking about diet plan, I will discuss about PCOD and its causes and symptoms .

What is PCOD?

PCOD is a condition where the ovaries of a woman release a lot of partially — mature or immature eggs which turn into cysts. Cysts are closed or sac-like structures in the ovary that are filled with a semisolid substance. The major causes of cysts may include pelvic infections, hormonal imbalance, endometriosis, and pregnancy.

PCOD increases the production of oestrogen and androgen hormones causing havoc with a woman’s fertility and her body.

Causes of PCOD:

There is no certain cause of PCOD but there are some factors that cause this disorder including:

  • Production of male hormones
  • Low — grade inflammation
  • Genetics
  • Unhealthy lifestyle
  • Pollution
  • Excess insulin
  • Obesity

Symptoms of PCOD :

Some common symptoms of PCOD or Polycystic Ovarian Disorder include:

  • Excess hair growth on some body parts
  • Frequently feeling hungry
  • Headaches
  • Infertility
  • Irregular periods
  • Difficulty in losing weight
  • Uncontrolled Acne
  • Darkening of skin

PCOD Diet Plan :

Before talking about a diet plan, let’s talk about the major nutrients that you have to include in your diet plan.

You should include healthy fat ( like Omega 3) in small amounts, Complex carbohydrates (low Glycemic Index) in moderation, and High-quality protein.

Apart from this, also include Vitamin D, Iron, Zinc, Chromium, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin B8, and Antioxidants ( mainly herbs, green vegetables, and citrus fruits).

Morning

6:00–6:30 am :

Option 1: Fenugreek( methi) seeds water (soak 2 tbsp of fenugreek seeds in 1 cup of water and have it in the early morning)

Fenugreek or methi seeds are powerful antioxidants that can lower your blood sugar levels and enhance your insulin sensitivity.

Option 2: Cinnamon Lemon and Ginger drink (Boil grated ginger and small cinnamon stick in water)

Cinnamon Lemon and Ginger drink contain antioxidants or anti-inflammatory properties that help in preventing sickness.

Option 3: Curry leaves water (Mix 1 tbsp of curry leaves powder in 1 glass of water and drink it)

Curry leaves are known to stimulate insulin-producing cells.

Option 4: Moringa tea (Boil a few leaves of moringa in water to prepare tea)

Moringa leaves are packed with antioxidants that can reduce your blood pressure and lower the absorption of sugar at the cellular level.

After having any of this drink, do a body massage with sesame oil.
